Blue Blood Series (Masquerade, and Revelations)

By: Melissa de la Cruz

Rating: *****

Within New York City’s most elite families, there lurks a secret society of celebrated Americans whose ancestors sailed on the Mayflower. They are the powerful and the wealthy—and in fact, they are not human. They are the Blue Bloods, an ancient group of vampires.

Schuyler Van Alen has never fit in at Duchesne, her prestigious New York City private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes instead of the Prada and pearls worn by her classmates, and she lives with her reclusive grandmother in a dilapidated mansion. Schuyler is a loner—and happy that way.

But when she turns fifteen, Schuyler’s life changes dramatically. She has a mosaic of blue veins on her arms, and craves raw meat. The death of a popular girl from Duchesne is surrounded by a mystery that haunts her. And strangest off all, Jack Force, the most popular boy in school, is showing a sudden interest in her. Schuyler wants to find out the secrets the Blue Bloods are keeping. But is she herself in danger?

This series is an amazing one. I was told by a friend to read this, that I would enjoy it. I wasn't to big on the idea because I try not to read series, but this was worth it. The entire time I read it I found it hard to put it down. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about reading it.

The book is about a girl name Schuyler Van Alen (pronounced like Skylar) who has just found out what she truly is. A vampire. The only thing is, the way the vampires work is not your usual run of the mill hollywood story kind of way. They look and act like normal people. They do not kill humans, merely take some blood when needed. Everything they do is not normal and unexpected to most of the readers I'm sure.

There are some things you need to know and understand before you read these books. The view point changes a lot through out the book, keep a mental note of which character's thoughts you are reading. Another thing is that this a very fashion forward book. (Author) has apparently done her research on the latest fashion and has incorporated it into her book. Don't get to wrapped up in not knowing what she is talking about. If you do, then you are one of the few lucky ones. If you don't understand it is ok, none of it is crucial for the book.

When I read it I found it would have been easier to maybe write down the different blood lines and maybe who each person was. That is also because I was reading other books as well. It has many characters that will appeal to a wide variety of people. There is the laid back girl who is from Texas but has ended up living in New York, the sexy boy who steals every girls hearts, his twin sister who is the leader of everything but has a bad attitude. There are many more, but I will leave them as a surprise to you.

I recommend this book to anyone and I think everyone will walk away felling satisfied. If I have said anything to turn you away from this book then I am terribly sorry. You should read it anyways and find out for yourself if it was worth reading.
